We often make small ethical compromises for "good" reasons: We lie to a customer because our boss asked us to. We exaggerate our accomplishments on our résumé to get an interview. Temptation blindsides us. And we make snap decisions we regret.Minor ethical lapses can seem harmless, but they instill in us a hard-to-break habit of distorted thinking. Rationalizations drown out our inner voice, and we make up the rules as we go. We lose control of our decisions, fall victim to the temptations and pressures of our situations, taint our characters, and sour business and personal relationships. In Ethics for the Real World, Ronald Howard and Clinton Korver explain how to master the art of ethical decision making by:Identifying potential compromises in your own lifeApplying distinctions to clarify your ethical thinkingCommitting in advance to ethical principlesGenerating creative alternatives to resolve dilemmasPacked with real-life examples, this book gives you practical advice to respond skillfully to life's inevitable ethical challenges. Not only can you make right decisions, you can acquire new habits that will realize the best in yourself and transform your relationships.

Wow! Amazing and practical book from a Stanford professor and world expert on decision analysis! I have come realize the profound value of teaching ethical thinking using everyday decisions. What better way to learn how we think, how we rationalize, and how we unintentionally make decisions that violate our own ethical code. I purchased copies for my three children (ages 14 to 19). I wish I had read this years ago. However, it is never to late to learn and improve.
I got this for school so I don't really have an opinion. It did what I needed it to do
Best written ethical position that meets the young mind in a way that they can appreciate the principles taught.
I recommend this book to everyone, looking to forge an exceptional character, and add another great habit to your repertoire.
Excellent book! I really enjoyed reading this book and it made me really look at how I live my life. Jim Spray
Thought the Book was wonderful! Used the book and applied to ethics in worksplace as an interpreter for the deaf. Shared with colleagues, who are also enjoying the book.
I read this book recently when confronted with some gray areas in my workplace, and immediately bought it for some of my colleagues to use as a catalyst for discussion. This led to ongoing conversations in which we clarified our organizational code of conduct, and figured out where the boundaries lie between private and workplace conduct. I am going to incorporate some of the lessons into recruiting and training, because indeed it's easier to set expectations for an ethical code of conduct up front rather than try to clarify them in the heat of a dilemma. The book is particularly helpful in drawing distinctions between ethical, legal, and prudential thinking - for example, what's wrong may not be illegal and it may feel good, but that doesn't make it right. I can also attest that the book gives pragmatic advice about focusing on what is out of bounds (negative injunctions), since it is usually easier to agree on that.I took the class at Stanford that inspired this book and have known, worked with, and respected the authors since then. I am proud to count them among my teachers and friends. I am delighted that their wisdom is now so portable, and that I can share it with friends and colleagues in through the medium of this book.
I love it! It's really interesting book to consider for everyday lives. Also, very interesting points that were to be considered in the book.
